THIRTEEN IS MY NUMBER
THIRTEEN IS MY NUMBER
Nine-year-old Lilly describes her life in a village on Mount Napf in the late 1950s. She grows up surrounded by poverty and harsh peasant customs, desperately rebelling against injustice within the family, violence and the unreasonable demands of the adult world. Swiss filmmaker Alice Schmid has managed to produce a debut novel with an astute eye for detail and the force of Jeremias Gotthelf which is at the same time moving, oppressive and full of authenticity. A profound and genuine story displaying wit and sensibility.
